IMDA, in collaboration with our community and corporate partners, organised the first-ever Digital Inclusion Festival (DIF).

IMDA Digital Inclusion Festival - Emcee Lester

The three day event, held in support of the SkillsFuture Festival, took place over the weekend on 26 to 28 July 2019 at the Lifelong Learning Institute. It brought the community together including the senior citizens, underprivileged children, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to embrace technology.

The event attracted over 13,000 visitors, who participated in more than 90 activities ranging from tech exhibition, infocomm learning booths, accessibility workshops and children’s coding classes. There were hourly tech tutorials for senior citizens to help equip them with digital skills. More than 450 volunteers from the SG:D Friends programme came forward to help out at the event.

Guest-of-Honour, Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information officiated the event. He shared on the importance of inclusivity in Digital Readiness outreach efforts and how it requires a collaborative effort across the public, private, and people sectors to help everyone to be digitally-ready.

He announced at the event that students from four special education schools will be able to pick up common skills such as searching for information digitally, making e-payments, using emails and virtual chats as part of their education, when the schools incorporate IMDA’s Basic Digital Skills Curriculum into their academic curricula in 2020. Schools could also tap on a new virtual reality  game, co-developed by IMDA and APSN Tanglin School, to teach students cyber wellness.

Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information, Dr Janil Puthucheary was also at the event. He shared about some of the approaches IMDA has in place to encourage inclusivity such as digital access, digital literacy and digital participation.
