Manila Galleon International Conference

§

Happy to host the Manila Galleon International Conference organised by ACM (Asian Civilisations Museum)!

This is in conjunction with the Manila Galleon exhibition at the ACM, which ends this Sunday, 17 March – don’t miss it!

The two day conference examined the significance of the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade, which connected Asia to the Americas and Europe from 1565 to 1815.

International speakers from across the globe – including Mexico, the Philippines, UK, Japan, and Malaysia – flew in to present about the Galleon trade.

For centuries, Spanish ships laden with porcelain, silk, spices, and other goods sailed annually across the Pacific from Manila to Acapulco, returning with millions of pieces of silver.

The conference and exhibition reveals how people, goods, and ideas circulating through the global port cities of Manila and Mexico City created a distinctive shared cultural and artistic heritage.
