HDB Community Week 2016 was held at Bedok Town Plaza this year to tie in with the opening of Bedok Town Plaza and the Bedok Pedestrian Mall, as well as to deepen engagement with the Bedok community.
Emcee Singapore Lester Leo was the emcee for this event for the 3rd year running.
The event was meant to showcase how residents and students have contributed to their neighbourhoods and inspire others to do the same, and also to cultivate ‘heart-ware’ to strengthen residents’ sense of attachment to places. This is also to convey the message that “everyone can contribute to make our heartland a friendly and lively place for all”.
As part of the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) programme, HDB introduced new town plazas such as the Bedok Town Plaza as a key feature of the rejuvenation plans. Bedok Town Plaza has since been named as Bedok Town Square by the Bedok Community.
