PA PAssion Fiesta @ Heartlands was hosted by Singapore Emcee Lester Leo.
Guest of Honour was Minister for Defence and Adviser to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Grassroots Organisations, Dr Ng Eng Hen. He also joined residents at the Fiesta for free CC courses try-out such as traditional handicraft ketupat weaving.
Starting 1 July 2016, in celebration of PA Day, NSmen can enjoy 10% off discounts when they sign up for CC and Water-Venture courses, or book CC facilities. This is part of PA’s efforts to recognize and honour our NSmen for their contributions to the nation and community. Together, we share a common goal in building a strong, secure and cohesive nation – our NSmen form the backbone of our military defence, and our grassroots volunteers help strengthen our tightly-knit social fabric.
NSmen and residents who are non-PAssion Card members but wish to sign up for CC courses, can also register and enjoy a 5-year PAssion Card membership for just $2 (usual price $12) when they sign up for any CC courses in the whole month of July. With these privileges, NSmen will have more opportunities to bond with their families when they sign up for a variety of meaningful and enriching CC courses.
In addition, through the “We Support You in NS” initiative, some members of The Federation of Merchants’ Associations, Singapore (FMAS) are also providing their support by joining PA to honour NSmen with discounts when they patronise at participating hawker stalls, starting from July 2016.
The above initiatives were announced by Minister for Defence and Adviser to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Grassroots Organisations, Dr Ng Eng Hen, at the two-day PAssion Fiesta @ Heartlands (Toa Payoh Central), held at the open space next to Block 178 Toa Payoh Central on Saturday, 11 June 2016. He also joined residents at the Fiesta for free CC courses try-out such as traditional handicraft ketupat weaving.
During the two-day PAssion Fiesta, residents tried out a variety of bite-size CC courses that can be enjoyed as a family for free. These included courses such as “Strawbees Eco Workshop”, “Brick Art”, “Clay Art”, “Drawing with 3D Pens”, which were fun holiday for the little ones to enjoy with their parents and grandparents.
To kick off the early celebrations for Hari Raya Puasa, one of the highlights at the PAssion Fiesta was the display of a 1.5m tall giant ketupat structure made up of nearly 1,000 ketupat handicraft. It was put together by 40 seniors during a ketupat-making session organised by the Bishan East-Thomson Active Ageing Committee and Senior Citizens’ Executive Committee to encourage seniors to socialise and stay active in the community by learning a new hobby at the CCs. Together with their friends, the seniors had fun learning a new craft, and fostered a greater understanding of Malay arts and culture, and appreciation of the Hari Raya festive spirit.
PAssion Fiesta @ Heartlands (Toa Payoh Central) is jointly organised by PA, The Federation of Merchants’ Associations, Singapore (FMAS), Toa Payoh Central Merchants’ Association, and supported by The Photographic Society of Singapore. This is an initiative by WeCare PALs.
